This exciting release is the result of a partnership between Geely and Baidu, two heavyweights in China’s tech and automotive sectors. Earlier this summer, they restructured their collaboration, with Geely taking the lead with a 65% share, while Baidu holds 35%, focusing on providing the cutting-edge technology. This shift also led to the creation of a new brand, JiYue, replacing their former joint venture, Jidu Auto.
At the heart of the JiYue 01’s capabilities is Baidu’s Apollo system, which enables Level 4 autonomous driving, allowing the car to perform nearly all driving tasks under certain conditions. This marks a huge leap forward for the auto industry, offering a taste of the future today.
A Futuristic, Yet Practical EV
The JiYue 01 is built on Geely’s SEA platform and comes with two battery options: a 71 kWh version offering 550 kmof range and a larger 100 kWh version for up to 720 km on a single charge. Charging is ultra-fast too, with the ability to go from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes using DC fast charging.
When it comes to power, you can choose between a 200 kW or 400 kW motor. The high-performance version can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, making this EV a speedster as well as a tech marvel.
Next-Level Smart Features
But the JiYue 01 isn’t just about performance – it’s also loaded with futuristic tech. It’s the first car to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 chip, delivering top-tier smart features. One of the highlights is its advanced voice recognition system, which allows the car to understand and respond to complex commands both inside and outside the vehicle.
And the fun doesn’t stop there. The JiYue 01 is also equipped with a self-parking system. Using voice commands, owners can park their car remotely or summon it from up to 2 kilometers away. It’s like having your own personal valet!
Autonomous Driving That’s Ready for the Road
The JiYue 01 offers a full suite of autonomous driving features that can handle a wide variety of scenarios. It can change lanes, overtake other vehicles, navigate highway entrances and exits, avoid obstacles, and even recognize traffic lights and pedestrians. This system works on 90% of highways in China, as well as in major cities like Hangzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai.
By 2024, Geely and Baidu aim to expand the vehicle’s capabilities to over 200 cities across China, making autonomous driving more accessible than ever before.
